The father-son combo of Ray and Talon Dingledine posted a 15-under-par 57 on Wednesday at Spring Creek Golf Club to win the 5th Virginia State Golf Association Parent-Child Championship.
The Dingledines tied with the father-son combo of David and Joey Jordan but won via the USGA Scorecard Tiebreak Method, as the Dingledines posted a better score (29) than the Jordans (31) on the back nine.
The Dingledines (Stonehenge G&CC) went out in the morning shotgun wave and started on No. 16. After a par-par start, they got their round going with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole. They were 4-under through eight holes then made a birdie on the par-4 6th. They closed their round by going 11-under over their final 10 holes, a run that included nine birdies and an eagle on the par-5 9th.
The Jordans (Willow Oaks CC) began on No. 1 in the afternoon shotgun and got off to a sizzling birdie-eagle start. They turned at 10-under but made four pars on the back nine and couldn’t pass the Dingledines. They had a pair of 25-foot eagle putts on 18 but neither were able to convert.
